Lady Gaga wants to be that guy, or at least in her brand new music video for “G.U.Y.” In an interview on "The Today Show" on Friday (March 21), Mother Monster sat down with reporter Savannah Guthrie and revealed a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the epic clip.

When asked if Gaga cracked the whip on set, she replied, “Well, you have to to keep the pace going. We had our work cut out for us with this video. It was a very big production. We shot for six days, and it was just such a pleasure working with the whole team.”

She added, “We had a really, really great time.”

The pop superstar also addressed rumors that everything she does is an act. “We sometimes think that there is a perception that what I’m doing is all a big show,” she said. “I really, truly feel that it’s just a part of who I am. Every moment of my life is devoted to my music and to my fans.”

In recent controversy-grabbing headlines, Gaga made a stir with her vomit-inspired performance at the South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) in Austin. “I guess we weren’t completely surprised,” she noted of how things blew up following the showcase. “Millie [Brown] and I know that not everyone is going to love that performance, but we both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities. I support her in what she does.”

“My new album ARTPOP is about bringing art and music together in the spirit of creative rebellion. For us, that performance was art in its purest form, but we totally understand that some people won’t be into it,” she said “Did we want the controversy? I suppose it doesn’t matter.”

The full “G.U.Y” music video will premiere on Dateline on Saturday, March 22, at 8/7c. Set those DVRs, Little Monsters!
